Exhibitionist. Provocateur. Visionary. Libertine.
Percy Katt's rise to notoriety began at the age of 17, when he left his parochial home town for New York City to embark on a haute couture modelling career. Despite his achievements, which included collaborations with heavy hitters including Jean Paul Gaultier in the world's fashion capitals, he realized that this world - in spite of its seductive glamour - lacked the opportunities for creativity and self-expression that he so passionately required. Leaving this life behind, he returned to Canada and reinvented himself as a night-life personality and performance artist.
Throughout Katt's many chameleonic transformations, one aspect of his life has remained a constant: his drive to express himself through art. His work is lurid, narcissistic and risqué, but it also raises important and challenging questions about sexuality, materialism, identity politics, and self-promotion. Over the last ten years Percy Katt has amassed a portfolio of hundreds of images and videos, appeared in a plethora of live art, burlesque and fashion shows, and, in the process, has collaborated with world-renowned photographers, models, burlesque stars, brands and designers.
Some recent highlights from Katt's tumultuous career include television appearances on OUTtv's "Shadowlands", LOGO's documentary "I'm A Stripper", W Network's "Who Lives Here?" and "Style by Jury". His art has been featured in magazine spreads including OUT and The Advocate, coffee table books, the solo exhibition "The 9 Lives of Percy Katt" in Sofia, Bulgaria and in academic lectures and burlesque shows across North America. Percy Katt has been the recipient of several prestigious design awards including GRAPHIS and he has had the honor of sharing the stage with the iconic Dita Von Teese.
